Committed to Giving Back

Elisa Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that administers educational scholarship programs for those students pursuing learning English as a second language. The foundation’s primary interest within education include assisting students geographically located in La Paz, Bolivia who are pursuing engineering degrees in the areas of metallurgical, petroleum and chemical engineering.

Scholarship recipients receive grants to Bolivia’s most prestigious bilingual education institute, Centro Boliviano Americano (CBA). The Elisa Education Foundation scholarship covers a complete curriculum of 18 modules for each scholarship recipient. This program can be completed in 18 or 36 months.

After the curriculum is completed, students are ready to successfully pass the TOEFL test, which will help them get additional scholarships for continuing education, i.e., Master Programs, PHD, etc.

As of last year, Elisa Education Foundation granted 10 scholarships. The foundation directly facilitates payment to the bilingual education institute. Each scholarship awarded is worth $1.5K.

About Bolivia’s Economy

The Plurinational State of Bolivia is South America's poorest country. In the countryside, poverty is widespread and deeply entrenched, particularly among the nation's indigenous people, who constitute the majority. About 60% of Bolivians live below the national poverty line.

Over one million Bolivian citizens over the age of 15 are unable to read or write. Education issues are exponentially worse in rural areas with children averaging only 4.2 years of school, while urban children average 9.4 years. The majority of Bolivians never reach secondary schools.

Without sufficient resources, families cannot invest in the education of their children. Instead, short term needs require that children never acquire the skills needed to pull the family out of poverty.

About

Elisa Gomez

Elisa Gomez was a woman who never neglected to do good and share the little things she had, despite her own family financial situation. For Elisa and her husband, these acts of love were not sacrifices, but opportunities to make someone smile.

The Elisa Education Foundation was established in November 2013 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to strengthening the educational opportunities of students in Bolivia.

The foundation’s first charitable act was donating several books to the Metallurgical Engineering Department of Bolivia’s prestigious universityThe Higher University of San Andrés (Universidad Mayor de San Andrés) back in November 2013.
